Prize the prestige of judgeship as you will; I
Whatever power you desire from the decree of fate,
held your standing high the day you became an advocate.
I have magnified your power the day you became a lawyer.

If you adjudicate a rightful claim, yours is one merit;
If you judge in the right, then your merit is one,
or, if you defend it, you add a second merit.
Or if you exceed it, you add a second merit.

God, what virtues! Whenever minds ascend,
My Lord, when noble morals are promoted,
from the judge the lofty advocate is called forth.
The eminent lawyer and judge are sent.

Eloquence has bestowed its robe upon the advocate;
Eloquence adorned the lawyer with its garment,
wear it flowing, and keep it resplendent.
Dress him in it flowing, and guard it glittering.
