والمالكونand the possessors لقلبيof my heart كيفماhowever فعلواthey act
They are the beloved, whether unjust or just,
Whether they are fair or unfair, they are my beloved
And the masters of my heart, whatever they do.
And the owners of my heart, no matter what they do
فليعلمواso let them know أنthat وديmy affection لاnot يغيرهchanges it

So let them know that my affection is not changed
Let them know that my affection does not change
By a change in their dispositions, nor by weariness.
With the changing of their dispositions or boredom

فقدfor indeed طويتI rolled up بساطاًa carpet مدهspread it العذلreproach
And let them withhold blame from my heart through their open-handedness,
And let them withhold blame from my heart with their kindness
For I have rolled up a carpet that reproach spread out.
For I have laid out a carpet, its length extended by love
أجلهمI revere them أنthat يزورvisits الغيثthe rain ساحتهمtheir courtyard
وأنand that أقولI say لهمto them ياO قاطعينseverers of ties صلواrestore ties
I deem them too exalted for rain to visit their courtyard,
It is right that rain should visit their abode
Or for me to say to them, 'O you who sever ties, restore them.'
And that I say to them, O you who have cut off ties, pray

So whenever the lightning's light appeared, I said to it,
So whenever the lightning flashed I would say to it
'Cease, for my heart is occupied with the Nile's lightning.'
Make it brief, for my heart is preoccupied with the Nile’s lightning

بحبfor loving منone who ليسthere is not فيin الدنياthe world لهfor him بدلa substitute
So I am blamed for nothing but my infatuation
So I have no regrets over anything except my ardour
For loving one who has no substitute in this world.
For loving those who have no equal in the world

Beloved ones have a place in my heart;
Beloveds who have a dwelling in my heart
And the paradise of my virtues is now its lodging.
Which has become my paradise and abode

My defense for loving them is made
My love for them excuses me
By an excuse sanctified by love preludes and amorous verse.
An excuse made sacred by passion and poetry
