أَخوكَ الَّذي لا يَنقُضُ الدَهرَ عَهدَهُ

أَخوكَ الَّذي لا يَنقُضُ الدَهرَ عَهدَهُ

وَلا عَن صُروفِ الدَهرِ يَزوَرُّ جانِبُه

وَلا عَن صُروفِ الدَهرِ يَزوَرُّ جانِبُه

Your brother is the one who never breaks his pledge,

Your brother whose covenant time does not annul

nor does his side turn away because of time’s reversals;

Nor do the turns of time make him swerve

وَلَيسَ الَّذي يَلقاكَ بِالبِشرِ وَالرِضى

وَلَيسَ الَّذي يَلقاكَ بِالبِشرِ وَالرِضى

وَإِن غِبتَ عَنهُ تابَعَتكَ عَقارِبُه

وَإِن غِبتَ عَنهُ تابَعَتكَ عَقارِبُه

not the one who meets you with smiles and goodwill,

Not he who meets you with cheer and favor

yet if you are absent from him, his scorpions pursue you.

And if you are absent, his fingertips follow after you

فَخُذ مِن أَخيكَ العَفو وَاَغفِر ذُنوبَهُ

فَخُذ مِن أَخيكَ العَفو وَاَغفِر ذُنوبَهُ

وَلا تَكُ في كُلِ الأُمورِ تُحاسِبُه

وَلا تَكُ في كُلِ الأُمورِ تُحاسِبُه

So accept from your brother what comes readily, and forgive his faults,

So take from your brother, pardon, and forgive his sins

and do not hold him to account in every matter.

And be not in all affairs accusing him
