وَفَيتُ بِذِمَّةِ القَيسي لَمّا

And I fulfilled the pledge of al-Qaysi when

the companions and neighbors left its keeping to one another,

كَما أَوفَيتُ بِالعُكلي ضَرباً

كَما أَوفَيتُ بِالعُكلي ضَرباً

بِنَصلِ السَيفِ إِذ عَلَنَ السِرارُ

just as I kept faith with al-ʿUkli by striking

Just as I fulfilled the pledge of Ukayli with a blow

with the sword’s blade, when the secret came to light.
