وَمِنَ المَوالي مَوليانِ فَمِنهُما

وَمِنَ المَوالي مَوليانِ فَمِنهُما

مُعطي الجَزيلَ وباذِلُ النَصرِ

مُعطي الجَزيلَ وباذِلُ النَصرِ

And among allies are two kinds; one of them is

Among the loyal there are two loyal men

a giver of bounty and a bestower of aid;

One gives generously, the other brings victory

وَمِنَ المَوالي ضَبُّ جَندَلَةٍ

وَمِنَ المَوالي ضَبُّ جَندَلَةٍ

لِحَزِ المُروءَةِ ظاهِرُ الغَمرِ

لِحَزِ المُروءَةِ ظاهِرُ الغَمرِ

and among allies is a rock-dwelling lizard,

And among the loyal, the hornet of Jandalah

stingy in noble deeds, his rancor plain.

For the sake of honor, outstanding in generosity
