لِكَرامَتي أَعْرَضْتَ لا لِهَواني

لِكَرامَتي أَعْرَضْتَ لا لِهَواني

لَمْ تَجْفُني حَتَّى اهْتَمَمْتَ بِشَاني

لَمْ تَجْفُني حَتَّى اهْتَمَمْتَ بِشَاني

You turned away out of respect for me, not contempt.

It's for my dignity you've turned away, not my disgrace,

You did not shun me until you had taken an interest in my affairs.

You didn't abandon me until you cared for my affairs.

أَصْلُ التَّغَضُّبِ في هَواكَ مَحَبَّةٌ

أَصْلُ التَّغَضُّبِ في هَواكَ مَحَبَّةٌ

تَدَعُ المُحِبَّ بِصُورَةِ الغَضْبانِ

تَدَعُ المُحِبَّ بِصُورَةِ الغَضْبانِ

Affection is the root of feigned anger in loving you,

The root of your anger is love,

Which leaves the lover in the guise of an angry man.

You leave the lover in the guise of anger.

فَاشْغَلْ فُؤادَكَ بِي فَلَسْتُ مُبَالِياً

فَاشْغَلْ فُؤادَكَ بِي فَلَسْتُ مُبَالِياً

أَشَغَلْتَهُ بِهَوايَ أَمْ هِجْراني

أَشَغَلْتَهُ بِهَوايَ أَمْ هِجْراني

So occupy your heart with me, for I do not care

So occupy your heart with me, for I don't care

Whether you occupy it with loving me or forsaking me.

Whether you've filled it with love for me or abandonment.
