أَياO مَنْyou who يَرىconsiders أَنَّthat حُبِّيmy love لَهُfor him
ذُنُوبيmy sins وَمَاand not حَسَنَاتيmy good deeds سواهْanything besides it
O you who count my love for him
O you who regard my love for you
among my sins—though I have no good deeds but that love.
As my sins, though I have no good deeds but that love.
أَتَهْجُرُdo you forsake مَنْone who لَيْسَdoes not يَهْوىlove سِواكَanyone but you
وَيَهْوىand he loves هَواكَlove for you وَتَهْوىand you love جَفَاهْshunning him
Would you forsake one who loves none but you,
Do you forsake one who loves none but you,
who falls headlong into love of you, while you delight in shunning him?
And loves loving you, while you love shunning him?
كَفَاكَenough for you كَفَاكَenough for you مِنَof الهَجْرِestrangement مَاwhat

Enough, enough estrangement! What
Enough, enough of the estrangement that
you have inflicted did not satisfy even my envier.
You have brought about; my envier has not had enough.
أُحِبُّكَI love you واللَهِby God حُبَّthe love of الصِّبَاchildhood

I love you—by God—with the love of early youth,
I love you, by God, as I love childhood,
the love of young manhood, and the love of life.
And as I love youth, and as I love life.
