Mix for us, lad, in the verdant garden,

a cup of wine, and keep the lute’s treble string ringing.

Do you not see the swaying narcissus looking at us

with the gaze of one full of joy, delighted by the rain?

As though its eyes, in the beauty of its yellow hue,

were ointment cups of gold amid petals of camphor.

As though the fine dew upon it, to its beholder,

were tears lingering, bewildered, in the eyelids of one forsaken.
