    تَنْظُرْ إِلى شَبَحٍ أَخْفى مِنَ الفِكرِ

    Look, even if my death at your hands lies in your gaze;

    you will see a phantom more elusive than thought.

    O you whose glances, when cast, are sharper

    than keen-edged swords—nay, sharper than fate.

    Enough for you is what illnesses have left of a body

    in which love's tyranny has spared nothing and left nothing.

    Passion has never camped with me in the abode of its anguish

    without my seeing my tears on a journey because of it.

    مِنْ أَينَ يخفى ودَمْعي صَاحِبُ الخَبَرِ

    Indeed, I conceal my longing, yet it is well known;

    how can it be hidden, when my tears bear the news?
