    It concealed from the people what their resolve revealed,

    and revealed to distance and parting what had been concealed.

    They departed, and on the day of their parting I was left without

    a heart to burden with pain after they were gone.

    وَالجِسْمُ مُذْ فَارَقُوني يَعْشَقُ السَّقَما

    For parting loves them, and longing loves me;

    and my body, since they left me, has been in love with sickness.

    Oh, if only I had been blind the day he called out to them—

    the departing caravan's driver—why did parting show no mercy?
