I do not forget her words to me, while my tears

Were on my cheek like scattered pearls:

All tears flow only through forced effort,

Except the tears of the stranger and the forsaken.

Parting reddened my eye’s tears, so they became

    Like carnelian dissolved in crystal.

And, out of longing, fearing for it, there wept

With tears of sorrow, the eye of joy.
