Hope is far away, and longing is near.

Indeed, love's rule is truly a strange rule.

Never did I seek to drink beauty's water with my glances

from a beloved without a watcher barring me.

I was told, 'Repent of love.' I said, 'Indeed, I

have repented of my repentance—so how can I repent?'

I have committed no sins, O people, except

in love for one in whose love sins become sweet.
