مضى الَّذي أَودَعَ قلبي الجَوى

مضى الَّذي أَودَعَ قلبي الجَوى

فَدَمْعَتي مِنْ حَسْرَتي قاطِرَهْ

فَدَمْعَتي مِنْ حَسْرَتي قاطِرَهْ

He who lodged burning anguish in my heart has gone;

He who ignited the burning embers within my heart is gone

so my tear drips from my sorrow.

So my tears of regret flow steadily

واصَلَني ثمَّ بَدا هَجْرُهُ

واصَلَني ثمَّ بَدا هَجْرُهُ

تِلْكَ لَعَمرِي كَرَّةٌ خاسِرَهْ

تِلْكَ لَعَمرِي كَرَّةٌ خاسِرَهْ

He granted me union, then his desertion became plain;

He brought me together then his separation manifested

that, by my life, is a losing turn.

By my life that was a most regrettable loss

واعَدَني في الحَشْرِ أَنْ نَلْتَقي

واعَدَني في الحَشْرِ أَنْ نَلْتَقي

فَقَدْ تَشَوَّقْتُ إِلى الآخِرَهْ

فَقَدْ تَشَوَّقْتُ إِلى الآخِرَهْ

He promised me that we would meet at the Resurrection;

He promised at the final gathering we would reunite

so I have come to long for the Hereafter.

So I yearn for the hereafter
