اللَهُGod يَعْلَمُknows أَنِّيthat I هائِمٌdistraught قَلِقٌrestless
عَلَيَّupon me ثَوْبانِtwo robes مِنْof ضُرٍّaffliction وَمِنْand of سَقَمِsickness
God knows that I am distraught and restless.
God knows I wander restless,
I wear two robes: one of affliction and one of sickness.
In illness and sorrow clad.
وَقَدْand indeed نَدِمْتُI felt remorse عَلَىfor مَاwhat كانَoccurred مِنْof زَلَليmy missteps
وَأَنْتَand you أَعْظَمُthe greatest مَنْthose who يُرْجىare looked to with hope مِنَamong الأُمَمِthe nations
And I have indeed felt remorse for my past missteps.
I regret all my trespasses,
And, among the nations, you are the greatest of those in whom hope is placed.
And You are most hope-giving of folk.
فَاغْفِرْso forgive لِعَبْدِكَfor your servant ياO مَوْلايَmy lord زَلَّتَهُhis misstep
أَوْor لاَdo not فَحُكْمُكَfor your judgment فِيناover us غَيْرُnot مُحْتَكِمِarbitrary
So forgive your servant his misstep, O my lord.
So forgive Your servant his lapses, my Master,
Or do not—for your judgment over us is not arbitrary.
Or else Your rule is not to be gainsaid.
