هَاbehold قَدْindeed تَبَدَّلْتُI have exchanged أَوْطاناًhomelands بِأَوْطانِfor homelands
عَمْداًdeliberately وَفَارَقْتُand I parted from خُلاناًclose friends بِخُلانِfor close friends
Behold, I have exchanged homelands for homelands,
I have deliberately changed homelands for homelands
deliberately, and left friends for other friends.
And parted from friends for friends
فَلْيَبْلُغِso let it reach الشَّوْقُlonging بِيwith me أَقْصىthe utmost مَرَاتِبِهِits degrees
فَكَمْfor how many بُدُورٍfull moons عَلَىupon قُضْبانِboughs كُثْبانِsand dunes
So let longing carry me to its utmost heights;
So let longing reach its utmost in me
for how many full moons there are upon the boughs of dunes!
For how many risings and settings on the dunes of sand dunes
فَإِنَّنيfor indeed I باذِلٌgiving freely بِالصَّبْرِwith patience عِنْدَin the presence of فَتىًa youth
تَقْبِيلُkissing وَجْنَتِهِhis cheek وَالرُّكْنِand the Kaaba’s Corner سِيَّانِboth alike
For I am generous with patience in the presence of a youth:
I am steadfast with patience before a youth
kissing his cheek and kissing the Kaaba’s Corner are one and the same.
Kissing his cheek or the corner is the same
