وَإِنّاand indeed we أُناسٌa people ماnot تَزالُcease سُوامُناour grazing herds
تُنَوِّرُlight up نيرانَthe fires of العَدوِّthe enemy مَناسِمُهits hoof pads
And we are a people whose grazing herds are ever
Lighting up the enemy’s fires with their hooves.
وَلَيسَand there is not لَناfor us حَيٌّa tribe نُضافُwe are affiliated إِلَيهِمُwith them
وَلَكِنbut لَناfor us عودٌan old male camel (figuratively, a veteran chief) شَديدٌstrong شَكائِمُهits bridle-bits (figuratively, its resolve)
And we have no tribe to which we are attached;
But ours is an old camel, unyielding to the bit.
