عُصَيمَةُʿUṣaymah أَجزيهِI repay him بِماfor what قَدَّمَتhave put forward لَهُfor him

ʿUṣaymah—I repay him for what he has earned
I will reward Usaymah for what her hands have offered me,
with his own hands; if I do not repay his effort, I am ungrateful.
Or else I'll reward her effort as generously as I can.
تَدارَكَنيhe came to my rescue وَقَدand already بَرِمتُI had grown weary بِحيلَتيof my own devices

He came to my rescue when I had grown weary of my own devices,
She rescued me when my own scheming had left me stranded,
with the rope of a man who, if he leads a neighbor to water, brings him back.
With the rope of a man, who, when a neighbor sought passage, made way.
أُفَدّيI offer as ransom بِأُمِّيَwith my mother الحَصانِchaste وَقَدand already بَدَتhad appeared

I would ransom him with my chaste mother; already there had appeared
To free myself I would give up my dear steed, though she showed
to me, from al-Watidāt, the ropes of a ferryman.
In taut ropes on her flank, signs of one who could yet gallop and race.
