You visit a man who gives his wealth in return for praise.

And whoever pays the price of praise is praised.

And you are a man: whoever you give a gift to today

With your hand will not keep you from tomorrow's bounty.

You see that generosity does not bring a man's death nearer,

Just as miserliness and withholding do not grant immortality.

He earns wealth and spends it lavishly; whenever you ask him,

He beams and quivers like a sword of Indian steel.

Whenever you come to him, seeking your way toward his fire's light,

You find the finest fire, beside it the finest kindler.
