بادَت وَغَيَّرَ آيَهُنَّ مَعَ البِلى
إِلّاexcept رَواكِدَunmoving hearthstones جَمرُهُنَّtheir embers هَباءُdust
إِلّا رَواكِدَ جَمرُهُنَّ هَباءُ
They vanished, their traces altered by decay,
They have vanished, their traces altered with decay,
save hearthstones standing fast, their embers mere dust,
save unmoving hearthstones, their embers now dust,
وَمُشَجَّجٌand a battered stake أَمّاas for سَواءُthe middle of قَذالِهِits nape
وَمُشَجَّجٌ أَمّا سَواءُ قَذالِهِ
فَبَداso it appeared وَغَيَّرَand altered سارَهُthe rest of it المَعزاءُthe stony ground
فَبَدا وَغَيَّرَ سارَهُ المَعزاءُ
and one gashed at the head: the middle of its occiput
and a battered stake—as for the middle of its nape,
came into view, while the hard, stony ground altered the rest of it.
it lies exposed, while the stony ground has altered the rest of it.
