إِنَّ ضُباعَ اِبتَكَرَت عَلى سَفَر

إِنَّ ضُباعَ اِبتَكَرَت عَلى سَفَر

بانَت وَكانَت حُرَّةً ذاتَ خَفَر

بانَت وَكانَت حُرَّةً ذاتَ خَفَر

Indeed, Dubaʿ set out early on a journey.

The hyenas devised a scheme on a journey

She departed, and she was a freeborn woman endowed with modesty,

They were once free and graceful ladies

مِنَ العَفيفاتِ الجَميلاتِ الصُوَر

مِنَ العَفيفاتِ الجَميلاتِ الصُوَر

قَد أَصبَحَت زَوجَةُ شَمّاخٍ بِشَر

قَد أَصبَحَت زَوجَةُ شَمّاخٍ بِشَر

Among the chaste women, beautiful in appearance.

Of virtuous and beautiful appearance

Shammakh’s wife is now in distress,

Now the wife of a wretched man of ill repute

فَما أَنالُ اليَومَ مِنها مِن خَبَر

فَما أَنالُ اليَومَ مِنها مِن خَبَر

So today I receive no news from her.

I hear no news of her today
