Dispel the cares that have kept you sleepless,
Cast off the worries that kept you awake
With a sturdy, fleet she-camel, like a smith's anvil,
With the courage of a hardy traveler

Tall, sweat streaming behind her ears, strong as a male,
Loftier than the towering mountain peaks
Wild-ass-like, like a bow of split wild-lote wood.
Wandering like a lost bow of elmwood

As though her forelegs' to-and-fro, when he hurried her,
As if, when she hurried off at daybreak
Were the lively player's strokes, when they called for departure:
The caravan callers were shouting, “Decamp!”

The striking of balls across a swept, slippery surface,
The train of camels on slippery sands
On the deck of a wailing ship with two creaking crossbeams.
Swaying in the back of a docile she-camel

She reached the two spurs of Sharaf, rushing like a gale,
It settled on the tips of noble spears
Striding swiftly on supple legs, not crooked.
Storming over the traces of unyoked camels

She veered from al-Dawr, then al-Mawshum, then swept past
It flowed from the abodes and then from Mashoum
On Fayhan's plain, herd after herd of wild cattle,
In the valleys of Fayhaan before their time

Along an unbroken road like a serpent's back,
On a path like the ridge of a rainy cloud
Sloping down toward a summit at a lofty watering place.
Plummeting into a lofty ravine
