أَشكوI complain إِلىto اللَهِGod قَلباًa heart لاno قَرارَrest لَهُfor it
قامَتhas come قِيامَتُهُits Day of Resurrection وَالناسُwhile people أَحياءُare alive
I complain to God of a heart that knows no rest.
Its Day of Resurrection has come while people are still alive.
إِنif نالَit gains مِنكُمfrom you وِصالاًunion زادَهُadds to it سَقماًsickness
كَأَنَّas though كُلَّevery دَواءٍremedy عِندَهُto it داءُa disease
If it gains union with you, that increases its sickness,
As though every remedy were a disease to it.
كَأَنَّas though قَلبِيَmy heart يَومَon the day of البَينِparting طارَflew بِهِwith it
مِنَfrom among الرِفاعِthe tall ones نَجيبُnoble الساقِof leg عَدّاءُa swift runner
As though my heart, on the day of parting, were borne away by
A noble-legged, swift runner from among the tall ones.
