    فَيَأمَنُ أَن يُجنى عَليهِ كَما يَجني

    He has wronged me and falsely accused me, yet my heart obeys him;

    So he feels safe from being wronged as he does wrong.

    How long will you think ill of me, inventing accusations,

    While I ascribe your mistrust to jealous possessiveness?

    And by God, I have loved no one but you—

    A truthful man's oath, with no fear to make us qualify it.

    For if you are not to me like my hearing and my sight,

    Then may my eye never see, nor my ear ever hear.

    And you are indeed sweeter to my eyelids than slumber,

    And more delicious to my heart than safety.
