أَناشِدٌseeking? أَنتَyou أَطلالاًruins بِذيat Dhu القورِal-Qur
أَضَلَّهاhas effaced them جَوَلانُthe sweep of القَطرِrain وَالمورِand windblown dust
Are you seeking ruins at Dhu al-Qur,

فَماso ... not أُحيلُI lay blame عَليهِمupon them عِندَwhen نازِلَةٍa calamity
لَكِنbut أُحيلُI lay blame عَلىupon ذَنبِthe fault of المَقاديرِfate's decrees
So I lay no blame upon them when calamity strikes,
So I do not blame them when misfortune comes
but ascribe it to the fault of fate.
Rather I blame the guilt of predestiny
إِنif تَقتَطِعهُcut him off الأَعاديthe enemies عَنfrom مَذاهِبِهِhis paths
فَرُبَّthen many a أَبيَضَgleaming sword مَغمودٍsheathed لِمَنشورِfor one drawn
If enemies cut him off from his paths,
If enemies sever it from its principles
then many a gleaming sword lies sheathed for one drawn.
Then many a sharp sword remains sheathed
