غَيريsomeone other than me أَضَلَّكُمُlost you فَلِمso why أَناI ناشِدُsearching
غَيري أَضَلَّكُمُ فَلِم أَنا ناشِدُ
وَسِوايَand someone other than me أَفقَدكُمcaused your loss فَلِمso why أَناI واجِدُgrieving
وَسِوايَ أَفقَدكُم فَلِم أَنا واجِدُ
Another lost you—why, then, am I the one searching?
Others have led you astray, so why do I admonish?
And another caused your loss—why, then, am I the one grieving?
And without me you are lost, so why do I find?
عَجَباًhow strange! لَكُمconcerning you يَأبىrefuses البُكاءَweeping أَقارِبٌkinsmen
عَجَباً لَكُم يَأبى البُكاءَ أَقارِبٌ
مِنكُمof you وَتَشرَقُand choke بِالدُموعِon tears أَباعِدُstrangers
مِنكُم وَتَشرَقُ بِالدُموعِ أَباعِدُ
How strange it is with you! Those who refuse to weep are kinsmen
How strange that your kin refuse to weep
Of yours, while strangers choke on tears.
While distant ones overflow with tears.
