أَبا حَسَنٍ لي في الرِجالِ فِراسَةٌ

تَعَوَّدتُ مِنها أَن تَقولَ فَتَصدُقا

Abu Hasan, I have insight into men

That I've grown accustomed to speak truly

وَقَد خَبَّرَتني عَنكَ أَنَّكَ ماجِدٌ

سَتَرقى مِنَ العَلياءِ أَبعَدَ مُرتقى

It told me of you that you are glorious

You will ascend the heights beyond ascent

فَوَفِّيتُكَ التَعظيمَ قَبلَ أَوانِهِ

وَقُلتُ أَطالَ اللَهُ لِلسَيِّدِ البَقا

So I paid you honor before its time

And said, may God prolong the master’s survival

وَأَضمَرتُ مِنهُ لَفظَةً لَم أَبُح بِها

إِلى أَن أَرى إِطلاقَها لِيَ مُطلَقا

And I held back a phrase I did not utter

Until I see it appropriate to unleash

فَإِن عِشتُ أَو إِن مُتُّ فَاِذكُر بِشارَتي

وَأَوجِب بِها حَقّاً عَلَيكَ مُحَقَّقا

So whether I live or die, recall my tidings

And make it an obligation fulfilled by you

وَكُن لِيَ في الأَولادِ وَالأَهلِ حافِظاً

إِذا ما اِطمَأَنَّ الجَنبُ في مَوضِعِ البَقا

And for my family and children, be their keeper

When the flank settles in the place of survival
