    Sulayma swore to kill me and turned away.

    And she had granted my heart to sorrows and set them over it.

    She accused me falsely, and from that false accusation I went mad in

    Love—would that, when she wronged me, she had not accused me falsely.

    فَقَد بَلَغَت مِن رَبِّها ما تَمَنَّتِ

    She asked God for beauty in its entirety;

    So she attained from her Lord what she had wished for.

    She appeared to us like the sun, freely showing one brow,

    But withheld the brow concealed in secret.

    She turns away, reveals a smooth cheek, and shields herself

    With the two eyes of a drowsy gazelle from Wajra's wild herds.

    She shows you a gazelle, while her face is the sun,

    And reaches up with the neck of a young gazelle looking about.

    فَحَسبي رِضاها فَهوَ ناري وَجَنَّتي

    She kills and revives through rejection and favor;

    So her favor suffices me, for it is my fire and my paradise.

    She sways when youth's east wind stirs her,

    Like a bān shoot bending in a curved sand dune.

    Fear God regarding a lovesick man whose tears you made flow,

    And grant him a kiss from you upon the cheek.

    She smiles, revealing daisy blossoms and pearls,

    And bubbles made bright by the redness of wine.
