    O you whose cheeks bewilder the rose,

    And whose movements the bān-tree's branch envies.

    وَكَفاهُ أَنَّي مُقسِمٌ بِحَياتِهِ

    You are the one whom, by his life, I have never betrayed;

    And it suffices him that I swear by his life.

    You are the one—Joseph, before you, possessed

    In beauty only a tenth of a tenth of your qualities.

    Have you seen the sky's mirror polished bright?

    For the full moon—your face—has shone in its mirror.
