حَتّامَHow long? لاnot أَنفَكُّI cease to be ذاpossessed of لَوعَةٍburning anguish
وَعَولَةٍand wailing مِنfrom رَوعَةِthe terror of البَينِparting
How long shall I remain in burning anguish
I have attempted my best to translate and preserve the poem while outputting only the translation:
and wailing from the terror of parting?
So long as sorrow and anguish from parting persist
خالَطَmingled with دَمعيmy tears بِجُفونيupon my eyelids دَماًblood
فَهيَso they (my eyelids) تَسُحُّpour forth الدَمعَtears لَونَينِin two colors
My tears mingled with blood upon my eyelids,
My tears mixed with blood will stream from my eyes
so they pour forth tears in two colors.
How can the eye find peace when deprived
كَيفَhow تَقَرُّfinds rest العَينُthe eye يَوماًever وَقَدwhen already
بِنتُمyou have departed وَأَنتُمwhile you are قُرَّةُthe delight of العَينِthe eye
How can the eye ever find rest, when
Of you, the delight and joy of my eyes
you have departed, though you are the delight of the eye?
