أَتَبخَلونَ بِالخِيارِ خِسَّةً

أَتَبخَلونَ بِالخِيارِ خِسَّةً

عَلى أُناسٍ نَزَلوا بِدارِكُم

عَلى أُناسٍ نَزَلوا بِدارِكُم

Do you, out of baseness, begrudge cucumbers

Do you begrudge charity to the guest

to people who have lodged in your home?

Who has descended in your abode?

خِيارُكُم لَيسَت لَهُ مِن قيمَةٍ

خِيارُكُم لَيسَت لَهُ مِن قيمَةٍ

فَلَعنَةُ اللَهِ عَلى خِيارِكُم

فَلَعنَةُ اللَهِ عَلى خِيارِكُم

Your cucumbers have no value,

Your best men are of no value—

so God's curse be upon your cucumbers.

May Allah's curse be upon your best men!

لَو كانَ قَثّاءً عَذَرناكُم بِهِ

لَو كانَ قَثّاءً عَذَرناكُم بِهِ

إِذ كانَ لا يَفضُلُ عَن أَدبارِكُم

إِذ كانَ لا يَفضُلُ عَن أَدبارِكُم

Had it been snake cucumber, we would have excused you for it,

Had he been rotten carrion, we would excuse you,

since none would be left over beyond your backsides.

For it would be no worse than your behinds!
