    فيهِ مَن يُستَفتَ أَفتى بِالرُخَص

    And a maiden whose beauty embraced all and each;

    Concerning it, whoever is asked for a ruling grants dispensations.

    With eyes that stole our wits,

    So to them were submitted petitions against them.

    Bewitching, languid—if they gaze,

    Then the proud are their prey and quarry.

    A young girl—her two sashes roamed around

    Her slender waist, while her anklet choked.

    مِثلِهِ في بَحرِ كيشٍ لَم يُغَص

    No—by the pearls of her smiling mouth, for

    Whose like none has dived in the sea of Kish;

    قَهقَهَ الإِبريقُ فيهِ وَرَقَص

    And by the wine's bubbles in the cup, when

    The ewer guffawed within it and danced;

    And by my youth, its branches tender,

    And its shade is deep, yet has receded.
