أجَبْتَني خَلْفَ خَطِّي

أجَبْتَني خَلْفَ خَطِّي

وَذا فَصَفْعٌ يُجمَّلْ

وَذا فَصَفْعٌ يُجمَّلْ

You answered me on the back of my writing.

You answered me behind my line

And this, then, is an embellished slap.

And that a beautiful slap

فَجرِّسِ الآنَ مَدْحِي

فَجرِّسِ الآنَ مَدْحِي

هذا جَزا مَن تَقَوَّلْ

هذا جَزا مَن تَقَوَّلْ

So now expose my praise to public ridicule.

So now armor my praise

This is the reward of one who spoke falsely.

This the reward of one who pretends
