We revisit him in a grave over which the clouds have wept,
We bid him farewell, though clouds have rained tears for him,
And the gardens' bud-sheaths were rent in mourning for him.
And the standards bowed in grief for him towards the meadows.
يُجدِّدُrenews حُزْنيmy grief أَنَّهُthat he اليومَtoday راحِلٌdeparting

It renews my grief that he departs today,
My sorrow is renewed that today he is leaving,
And the fast approaches, with his bounty lost to us.
While his righteousness remains after he is gone.

And how many noble deeds belong to the minister Muhammad,
And how many noble deeds has Minister Muhammad,
At whose two shores Hatim of generosity hovers!
While Hatim's generosity still remains by its shore.
أَتربتَهُO his tomb جَاوَرْتِyou adjoined فخرينِtwo glories منهماfrom them both

O his tomb, you lie beside two glories, through whom
His tomb neighbored two glories, over which Arabs and non-Arabs contend,
Bedouin Arabs and non-Arabs vie in eminence.
And indeed, may Allah prolong the life of Ali,
وإنَّand indeed عَليّاًAli طوَّلَmay prolong اللّهُGod عمرَهُhis life
وَعُمْرَand the lifespan بَنيهِhis sons لِلثَّوابِfor reward لَغَانِمُsurely gaining
And Ali—may God prolong his life
And the lives of his sons for reward, they are all winners.
and the lives of his sons—is surely reaping reward.
And indeed for him in every glorious deed is sublimity,
وإنَّand indeed لهُfor him فيin كلِّevery أجْرٍreward أَجَلَّهُits greatest

And in every reward, his is the greatest share;
And none equals this glory, and Allah is All-Knowing.
And no reward equals this—God knows.
And none equals him in patience without him, but only
ولاand none مثلَهُlike him فيin الصَّبرِpatience عنهُwithout him وانِماand only

Nor is anyone like him in bearing his loss; for only
According to the resolve of the resolute, come the resolutions.
in proportion to the stature of the resolute do great resolves come.
