فَاهْمَعْso pour down بِقَطْرِكَwith your syrup لاnot عُدِمْتَmay you be deprived of سَحَابَاa cloud
The bread has been crumbled, and our butter has melted.
Our bread has crumbled and our butter has melted
So pour down your syrup—may you never lack a cloud!
So rain down with your droplets, be not devoid of clouds

Or with sugar drippings—or hasten a delivery;
Or with a drizzle, or send down a heavy rain
For life, once sweet, has turned to bitter sap.
For life has become bitter after sweetness
والجَرُّand dragging things out لَستُI am not أُحِبُّهُI like it فيin مَوْعِدٍa promise
مَاطَالَwas not drawn out شَيْءٌanything فيin الوُعُودِpromises فَطَابَاand became pleasing
And I dislike dragging out a promise:
And waiting I do not like at its time
Nothing drawn out in promises has ever proved pleasing.
Nothing is good in promises that have dragged on
أَمْطِرْrain upon نَواحِيَنَاour quarters التىwhich قَدْalready أَجْدَبَتْbecame barren
وَنَداand the dew يَدَيْكَof your two hands بِكُلِّin every قَطْرٍland صَابَاrained down
Rain upon our quarters, which have grown barren,
Rain down upon our barren valleys
And the dew of your hands has rained down in every land.
And your hands are called upon with every drop that pours down
