يَارَبِّ لا تُشمِتْ بِنا حَمْزَهْ

يَارَبِّ لا تُشمِتْ بِنا حَمْزَهْ

وَقَفِّزَ النيلَ لنا قَفْزَهْ

وَقَفِّزَ النيلَ لنا قَفْزَهْ

O Lord, do not let Hamzah gloat over us.

O Lord, do not let Hamzah gloat over us

And make the Nile leap up for us in one bound.

And make the Nile jump for us in a leap

وَلا تُذِقْنا العَجزَ والذُّلَّ لِل

وَلا تُذِقْنا العَجزَ والذُّلَّ لِل

خَبّاز يَاذا الحَوْلِ وَالعِزَّهْ

خَبّاز يَاذا الحَوْلِ وَالعِزَّهْ

And do not make us taste helplessness and humiliation before the

And do not make us taste weakness and humiliation

baker, O Possessor of power and glory.

O Lord of power and honor

وَكلُّ خَزَّانٍ أَذِقْهُ من ال

وَكلُّ خَزَّانٍ أَذِقْهُ من ال

عمودِ في قلبٍ لهُ وَكْزَهْ

عمودِ في قلبٍ لهُ وَكْزَهْ

And every hoarder—make him taste, from the

And let every treasurer taste a pillar

column, a jab in his heart.

In a heart that pierces him like a stab

وكُلَّما زِدْتَ لنا إصْبَعاً

وكُلَّما زِدْتَ لنا إصْبَعاً

كانَ لهُ في عَيْنهِ وَخْزَهْ

كانَ لهُ في عَيْنهِ وَخْزَهْ

And whenever You add a finger’s breadth for us,

And every time You add a finger to us

It will be a prick in his eye,

It feels like a stab in his eye

حتَّى نَرَى هَامِدَةَ الأرضِ قَدْ

حتَّى نَرَى هَامِدَةَ الأرضِ قَدْ

أَضحَتْ بِما أَنْزَلْتَ مُهَتزَّهْ

أَضحَتْ بِما أَنْزَلْتَ مُهَتزَّهْ

Until we see that the lifeless earth has

Until we see the prostrate earth

Become astir through what You have sent down.

Trembling from what You have revealed
