مَاnothing عَائِقُholds back المُتقدّمِينَthose who have gone ahead إلىto الرَّدَىdeath
مَا عَائِقُ المُتقدّمِينَ إلى الرَّدَى
إلاَّexcept انتِظارُwaiting for اللاحِقِthe one who follows المُتأَخرِthe latecomer
إلاَّ انتِظارُ اللاحِقِ المُتأَخرِ
Nothing holds back those who have gone ahead to death
but waiting for the latecomer who follows.
لاdo not يَطمَعْنكُمْlet it raise your hopes إنْif أَناخُواthey encamp بُرْهَةًa little while
لا يَطمَعْنكُمْ إنْ أَناخُوا بُرْهَةً
فَأَمَامَهُمْfor before them سَفَرٌa journey لِيَوْمِto the Day of المَحْشَرِGathering
فَأَمَامَهُمْ سَفَرٌ لِيَوْمِ المَحْشَرِ
Do not let their brief encampment raise your hopes;
for before them lies a journey to the Day of Gathering.
وَكأَنَّنيand it is as though I بِخِيامِهِمْsee their tents قَدalready قُوِّضَتْhave been taken down
وَكأَنَّني بِخِيامِهِمْ قَد قُوِّضَتْ
فَتَأَهَبَاso prepare لِلرِّحُلَتَيْنِfor the two journeys وَشَّمِّرِand gird yourself
فَتَأَهَبَا لِلرِّحُلَتَيْنِ وَشَّمِّرِ
And I seem to see their tents already struck;
so prepare for the two journeys, and gird yourself.
هُوَit مَوْرِدٌa watering place راعَterrified العِبَادَmortals وَرُبَّماand perhaps
هُوَ مَوْرِدٌ راعَ العِبَادَ وَرُبَّما
كانواthey will be أَشَدَّmore intense تَروُّعاًin terror لِلمَصْدَرِat departing
كانوا أَشَدَّ تَروُّعاً لِلمَصْدَرِ
It is a watering place that has terrified mortals; and perhaps
they will be more terrified still at departing from it.
