تَوَجَّهَ لَوْ مي علَى لائِمي

تَوَجَّهَ لَوْ مي علَى لائِمي

وَقَدْ مِسْتُ كالغُصُنِ النَّاعِمِ

وَقَدْ مِسْتُ كالغُصُنِ النَّاعِمِ

My reproach turned against my reproacher,

Had I turned toward those who blame me,

While I swayed like a supple bough.

While I remained gentle like a soft branch,

وَقَامَ بِعُذْرِيَ فيكَ العِذارُ

وَقَامَ بِعُذْرِيَ فيكَ العِذارُ

وَمَا النَّاسُ إلاَّ مَعَ القَائِمِ

وَمَا النَّاسُ إلاَّ مَعَ القَائِمِ

The cheek-down stood up in my defense concerning you,

And those who make excuses for me stood up in your defense,

And people side only with the one who stands.

People are always on the side of one who stands tall.
