And a girl whom we took for a boy,
A maid we thought a lad,
With a languid eye and a lively figure.
With languid grace and sprightly tread;

وَبُشِّرَ بِالشَّبابِ المُسْتَجَدِّ
The old man saw her, and his strength revived,
The old man saw, his strength returned,
And he was given glad tidings of renewed youth.
And joyful at new youth he yearned.
وَأتبَعَand he followed رِدْفَهاher backside نَظَراًwith a gaze فَقَالتْso she said
وَأتبَعَ رِدْفَها نَظَراً فَقَالتْ
أَظُنُّI think الشَّيْخَthe old man مِنfrom أَكْنَافِthe environs of نَجْدِNajd
أَظُنُّ الشَّيْخَ مِن أَكْنَافِ نَجْدِ
And he followed her backside with his gaze, so she said:
He followed with his gaze, till she
"I think the old man is from the environs of Najd."
Rebuked, “I think he's from Nejd's lea!"
