وَمَقَالٍand frying pans لَوْif مَدَدْتُمْyou extended بَاعَهاtheir reach
وَمَقَالٍ لَوْ مَدَدْتُمْ بَاعَها
لَتَناوَلْتُمْyou would surely grasp بِهاwith them النّجْمَthe star جُلُوساwhile seated
لَتَناوَلْتُمْ بِها النّجْمَ جُلُوسا
And a discourse—if you stretched its reach,
And frying pans—if you extended their reach,
you would grasp the star with it while seated;

وَأَيَادٍand hands أَطلَقَتْset free فِيناamong us النَّدىgenerosity
وَأَيَادٍ أَطلَقَتْ فِينا النَّدى
بَعْدَafter ماthat كانَit had been فيin الأَيدِيthe hands حَبيساًcaptive
بَعْدَ ما كانَ في الأَيدِي حَبيساً
and hands that set bounty free among us,
and hands that set generosity free among us,
after it had been held captive in hands.
