غِبْتُماyou two have gone away ياO سَيِّدّيْtwo lords of مُضَرِMudar
بينamong باديهاits desert folk إلىto الحَضَرthe townspeople
You two are away, O two lords of Mudar,
You have been absent, my lords, from Mudar
from its desert folk to its townspeople,
Between the nomads and the settled lands,
فيin مَسِنْيَاMasinya غيبةًan absence تركتْleft
حَلَباًAleppo ليلاًa night بلاwithout قَمَرِa moon
in Masinya—an absence that has left
Leaving Misnia so long absent
Aleppo a night without a moon.
Like an unlit night in Halab.
فمتىso whenever يُقْدَرْis decreed إِيابُكُماyour return (you two)
لاnot أَجِدْI find عَتْباًgrievance علىagainst القدرfate
So whenever your return is decreed,
When will your return be ordained?
I shall have no grievance against fate.
I find no fault with fate.

In the place of hearing and sight.
