إذا نزلَ المكروهُ بي ثم لم أُعَنْ

إذا نزلَ المكروهُ بي ثم لم أُعَنْ

على دَفْعِهِ عني بأمرٍ من الأمرِ

على دَفْعِهِ عني بأمرٍ من الأمرِ

When adversity befalls me and then I am not helped

When misfortune descends upon me and I cannot

to ward it off from me by any means,

Repel it by any means,

صبرتُ على غير اختيارٍ وإِنه

صبرتُ على غير اختيارٍ وإِنه

ليصبرُ مَنْ لا يستطيعُ سوى الصَّبر

ليصبرُ مَنْ لا يستطيعُ سوى الصَّبر

I endure, not by choice; and indeed,

I am patient without choice, and indeed

whoever can do nothing but endure surely endures.

Only he who cannot do otherwise will show patience.
