قالوا به زُرْقَةٌ فقلتُ لهم

بذاك تَمَّتْ خصالُه البَهْجَهْ

They said, 'He is blue-eyed,' so I said to them:

ما كَحَلُ العينِ مثلُ زُرقتها

كم بين ياقوتةٍ إلى سَبَجَه

كم بين ياقوتةٍ إلى سَبَجَه

The eye’s blackness is not like its blueness—

There is no kohl around the eye like its blueness,

How vast the distance from a sapphire to a bead of jet!

How far between a ruby and polished white pearl.
