حمتني البراغيثُ طيبَ الكرى

فليس يطوفُ الكرى بالمآقي
The fleas have denied me sweet slumber,
The fleas kept me from sweet slumber,
so sleep no longer visits my eyelids.
so slumber does not visit the corners of my eyes.

And like watchers over lovers,
spoiling with their bites the sweetness of embrace.
they thus spoil the sweetness of embraces with their bites.

They touch a young man's skin like dust motes,
then leave his skin like swollen wineskins.
and leave his skin like wineskins.
