    O son of al-Junayd, you have become entangled,

    Bewildered between misery and downfall.

    O bird of ill omen, despised among

    The birds, and portent of ill fortune,

    أكْرِمْ بتلكَ النفسِ من نفس

    Your ill omen stole away my only one's life;

    What a noble soul that was!

    And erased her beauties from the world,

    As an eclipse erases the beauties of the sun.

    If you are my son-in-law, it is no wonder:

    A shrewd man may be plagued by a vile fool.
