O my two companions, give me drink—may I never lose you both.
O my friend, give me a drink, may you never be far
May God reward you both for your kindness with kindness.
May God reward you with kindness upon kindness

Rise, you two, for the birds have stirred to tell us
Come now, the birds have already come and told us
From the boughs that dawn has come.

And pass me clear, dark-red wine,
And give me a cup of pure, morning breeze
Of the kind Kisra, son of Sasan, chose,
Of the selection of Kisra son of Sasan

By the hand of a cupbearer, gentle in his coquetry, whom you would think
In a delicate hand that you'd think

Was languid from the softness of its touch

When my eye sees the garden of his cheek,
If my eyelids see a garden and its greenery
That is garden enough for it to behold as long as I live.
They think they're seeing what I've lived with as a garden

Do not make me drunk on tawny wine—here I am,
Don't intoxicate me with blond wine, here I am
Already drunk from love's burning anguish.
From the agony of love, I've awakened drunk
