O bridegroom, may the wedding bring you joy,

and may private hours and intimacy delight you.

And the full moon is at its fullest when

the sun faces it with your face.

Your judgment of your beloved has proved sound, and

your surmise and intuition about him have proved true.

And you two have donned the new union over the

    well-worn union—what fine attire!

    للعاذلين ولا لكَ النَّحْس

    May no reproacher ever bring you ill luck;

ill luck to the reproachers, not to you!

And I know, Abu Ishaq, with the certainty of a young man

whom neither learning nor lineage has failed,

that what your hands have won

is a treasure—and of such treasure a fifth is ours.
