1. يا خيرَ مُسْتفَاضٍ

    فاضَ بخيرِ خِيْرِ

    O best of those whose bounty is sought,

    who overflowed with a generous man's bounty!

    كالعارضِ المَطير

    You rained wine upon me,

    like a rain-bearing cloud,

  3. ممَّا ثَوَى دهوراً

    ما شئتَ منْ دهور

    wine that had lain for ages—

    as many ages as you wished.

  4. واهاً له كبيراً

    في بهجةِ الصغير

    Ah, how lovely it is—aged,

    yet with the radiance of youth!

  5. أَقْبَلَ في إِناءِ

    مُقَابَل الأمُور

    It came in a vessel,

    confronted by events,

  6. مُقَنَّعاً بشَعْرٍ

    مُقَلَّداً بزيرِ

    hooded in hair,

    necklaced with a lute-string.

  7. يسعى بها غريرٌ

    كالرشإِ الغريرِ

    A guileless youth hurries with it,

    like a guileless gazelle-fawn.

  8. إِذا علا سناهُ

    على يدِ المدير

    When its radiance rises

    above the cupbearer's hand,

  9. تقولُ روح نارٍ

    تسْكن جسم نورِ

    you would say: a spirit of fire

    dwells in a body of light.

  10. تفتر عن ثُغورٍ

    أَبهى من الثغورِ

    It smiles, revealing mouths

    lovelier than other mouths,

  11. من لؤلؤٍ نضيدٍ

    أو لؤلؤٍ نثير

    of pearls neatly arrayed

    or pearls scattered.

  12. ماتتْ قه همومي

    وعاشَ لي سروري

  13. ولم تزلْ خطيراً

    تجودُ بالخطير
