يا أَبا حفصٍ قد اختر

يا أَبا حفصٍ قد اختر

تُ فلم آلُ اختيارا

تُ فلم آلُ اختيارا

O Abu Hafs, I have chosen

O Abu Hafs, you have chosen

and spared no effort in choosing.

And I have not ceased to choose

وتأَملتُ الهديَّ

وتأَملتُ الهديَّ

تِ كباراً وصغارا

تِ كباراً وصغارا

And I considered the gifts,

And I contemplated guidance

both large and small.

Of elders and juniors

لم أَجدْ شيئاً كشيءٍ

لم أَجدْ شيئاً كشيءٍ

يجعلُ الليلَ نهارا

يجعلُ الليلَ نهارا

I found nothing like something

I found nothing like something

that turns night into day.

That makes the night day

فتأَملْ من قريبٍ

فتأَملْ من قريبٍ

شجراً يحملُ نارا

شجراً يحملُ نارا

So look closely

So contemplate closely

at trees that bear fire.

A tree bearing fire

واكْسْهُا منكَ قَبولاً

واكْسْهُا منكَ قَبولاً

تكسُ مُهديها فَخارا

تكسُ مُهديها فَخارا

And clothe them in your acceptance;

And cover it from you with acceptance

you will clothe their giver in pride.

You will cover its bed with pride
