يا أبا عمروٍ الذي أجمعَ النا

يا أبا عمروٍ الذي أجمعَ النا

سُ على أَنه ربيعُ الناسِ

سُ على أَنه ربيعُ الناسِ

O Abu Amr, who, as all the people have agreed,

O Abu Amr, whom people agree

is the springtime of the people.

Is the springtime of men

أنَّستْني مواعدٌ منكَ فيها

أنَّستْني مواعدٌ منكَ فيها

للمفاليسِ غايةُ الإيناسِ

للمفاليسِ غايةُ الإيناسِ

Promises from you have comforted me; in them

Your promises have consoled me

lies the utmost comfort for the penniless.

Bringing hope to paupers in dire straits

ورجائي جودُ الأمير رجاءُ

ورجائي جودُ الأمير رجاءُ

لم يَشُبْ حُسْنَه قبيحُ الياس

لم يَشُبْ حُسْنَه قبيحُ الياس

And my hope for the emir's generosity is a hope

And my hope is the prince’s generosity

whose beauty the ugliness of despair has not marred—

A hope whose beauty doubt cannot mar

ليذودَ الإفلاسَ عنِّيَ حتى

ليذودَ الإفلاسَ عنِّيَ حتى

أغتدي مُفْلِساً من الإفلاس

أغتدي مُفْلِساً من الإفلاس

that he may drive bankruptcy away from me, until

To ward penury from me until

I become bankrupt of bankruptcy.

I escape from ruin, no longer poor
