أُقْسِمُ ما أنْصَفَني طاهرُ

I swear, Tahir has not treated me fairly.

I swear by the one who did me justice though pure

ناسٍ لما يَلْزَمُهُ حِفْظُهُ

ناسٍ لما يَلْزَمُهُ حِفْظُهُ

وهو لما يَنْسىَ الفتى ذاكرُ

وهو لما يَنْسىَ الفتى ذاكرُ

He forgets what he is obliged to remember,

Some people, when duty calls to memorize

yet he remembers what a young man forgets.

Forget, while the youth their minds endure
